Scholarships for Transfer Students

You should be able to focus on your education, not how much it costs. That’s why at Benedictine, we reward students based on their hard work inside and outside the classroom. We offer scholarships based on merit (GPA), musical talent, Phi Theta Kappa honors society membership and Benedictine legacy. We encourage all students to apply for Financial Aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) where you may also be considered for additional institutional funding during the financial aid process.

The priority deadline for maximum scholarships is Sunday, April 1. To be eligible for the maximum awards, you will need to be admitted to the University by this date. To complete an application, visit If you have questions about your pending application, you can contact or (630) 829-6300.

St. Benedict Transfer Award

Eligibility: 2.5-4.0 GPA; Evaluation of academic performance in college coursework; full-time enrollment.

Phi Theta Kappa Award

Eligibility: Previous or current member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society; 3.0-4.0 GPA; full-time enrollment.

Benedictine Scholars Program Award
$22,400 per year, annual renewability determined by program director

Eligibility: The Benedictine Scholars Program Award is the highest merit scholarship a student can receive at the University and is limited to a select few students each academic year. Students must complete a separate application and interview with the Scholars Program directly. Transfer students must commit to attend Benedictine for a minimum of two full academic years (four semesters) and maintain a minimum 3.200/4.000 cumulative GPA. See the Scholars Program webpage for a complete description of the Scholars Program and Program requirements.

Music Scholarship
$6,000 per year

Eligibility: Successful completion of music audition with the Department of Music; Declared major or minor in music.

Out-of-State Award
Up to $4,000 per year

Eligibility: Residents of a state other than Illinois who will live in a residence hall (does not include on-campus apartments).

Opportunity Award
$2,000 per year

Eligibility: Students who meet any one of the following four criteria:

  1. Graduate of a Catholic high school.
  2. Incoming student with sibling(s) currently enrolled in a traditional undergraduate program.
  3. Incoming student from an under-represented background.
Alumni Award
Up to $2,000

Eligibility: Students whose parent(s), grandparent(s) or sibling(s) is a degreed Alumnus.


Benedictine University Institutional Aid

During the financial aid process, a student will be considered to determine if they qualify for Benedictine University Institutional Funding in addition to their scholarship and federal aid eligibility. Students must complete their FAFSA in order to be considered for Benedictine University Institutional Aid. Benedictine Institutional Funding is renewable yearly.

Endowment Scholarships

Once you become a student at Benedictine, you can apply online at for endowed scholarships to receive the following academic year. The application process begins in November and ends in January.

  • Institutional awards are applicable to incoming transfer students starting in the Fall 2019 term.
  • Scholarships are subject to available funding and deadlines.
  • Full-time enrollment is defined as 12 or more semester credit hours per term.
  • Final transcripts must be received no later than 30 days after the first day of the term in which you are enrolled.
  • Student financial aid programs, terms and conditions are subject to change without notice or obligation.
  • The Benedictine Scholars Program Award and the St. Benedict Transfer Award are mutually exclusive and may not be combined.
  • Incoming sophomores are limited to a maximum of three years or six terms of institutional awards.
  • Incoming juniors are limited to a maximum of two years or four terms of institutional awards.
  • Incoming seniors are limited to a maximum of one year or two terms of institutional awards.
  • In most cases, there is a limit to institutional awards.
  • Students from the Mesa branch campus are not eligible for these scholarships as they qualify for special tuition rates.
  • Institutional awards are applicable to the cost of tuition only.
