Verification Process and Forms

The federal verification process is a quality control measure that requires students to submit proof of the data submitted on the FA. About one third of all FA records will be selected for verification by the federal processor.

Recent changes to the verification process have resulted in changes to how data is collected for FA verification.

Typically, students will be asked to submit:

  • A dependent or independent verification worksheet
  • Student and parent Tax Return Transcripts 
    • Instructions about obtaining these documents can be found here.
  • Other documents may be requested on an individual basis.

Verification Deadlines

For the 2018-19 award year, the student must submit all verification documents to the institution no later than 120 days after the student’s last date of enrollment for the 2018-19 award year or September 21, 2019, whichever is earlier.  As of this time, the deadline for the 2019-2020 aid year has not been published, but is expected to be no later than 120 days after the student’s last date of enrollment for the 2019-2020 award year or September 19, 2020, whichever is earlier.

Failure to submit requested documents will result in the loss of eligibility for Title IV aid.
