INSTITUTE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT BENEDICTINE

What is CO+HOOTS?

CO+HOOTS, founded in 2010 as central Phoenix’s first coworking space, provides a professional, self-sustaining space designed to grow entrepreneurial, startup and small business communities. Recently ranked the No. 1 Most Innovative Coworking Space in the U.S., CO+HOOTS continues to cultivate Arizona’s largest collaborative community and is a major driver of local economic development.

Joint collaboration with BenU Mesa

The collaboration with CO+HOOTS includes an 10,000 square foot expansion onto Gillett Hall, providing CO+HOOTS with their second coworking space. The best perk of the relationship, however, is the creation of an intensive entrepreneur immersIon program called CO+HOOTS Institute of Entrepreneurship at Benedictine. Students entering the program will learn through parallel educational pathways: the theoretical learning provided by Benedictine University will happen in the classroom and through CO+HOOTS, they will put those theories in action. These emerging entrepreneurs will build, launch and grow sustainable businesses with the guidance of CO+HOOTS’ leadership team and within CO+HOOTS’ coworking space in Mesa. They will do this alongside the community and network of CO+HOOTS’ established entrepreneurs, who will also serve as mentors, guides and even employers.

The Institute will also better prepare students to enter the workforce and arm them with a competitive advantage. The transferable skills and entrepreneurial mindset of grit, leadership, creativity, collaboration, effective communication and critical thinking will all be practiced and instilled in the student participants. The CO+HOOTS Institute for Entrepreneurship at Benedictine is unique and compliments the City of Mesa’s Downtown Innovation District.

Early in the conversations with CO+HOOTS founder and CEO, Jenny Poon, we were able to recognize a fantastic alignment of values. The focus on community, the desire to develop young people into the leaders of tomorrow, and the parallels of starting a campus, line well with starting a new business. We’re proud to be able to help bring CO+HOOTS to downtown Mesa’s Innovation District and we are excited to witness the impact they will bring to the students of Benedictine University Mesa.

Kevin Broeckling
Chief Executive Officer

"This is a big deal. We are thrilled to welcome CO+HOOTS to Benedictine University in downtown Mesa. CO+HOOTS cultivating a new coworking community and BenU students gaining insight into entrepreneurship will add depth to our growing innovation district.

John Giles
Mayor
