Why study political science at Benedictine?

When you choose to major in Political Science at Benedictine University, you will:

  • Develop the ability to successfully complete extensive writing and research projects useful in your future career.
  • Have opportunities for practical work experience through internship programs in government agencies, nonprofit organizations, law firms or other related entities.
  • Have small classes taught by professors using a wide range of approaches including information technology, film and student problem-solving.

What does a degree in Political Science at Benedictine offer?

Our program in Political Science is designed to help you discover politics as a field of knowledge. The faculty attempt to communicate both theoretical and practical knowledge of political systems and their processes. The program meets your varying needs by:

  • Preparing you for a professional career in government or business.
  • Preparing you for graduate-level studies in political science or related areas.
  • Providing a good background if you plan to go on to law school.
  • Developing a strong understanding of the concept of citizenship and commitment to service.

What careers are available with a degree in Political Science?

Your career opportunities in political science include jobs in national, state and local governments (such as urban planning, city management, staffing and budgeting), journalism, teaching, and in organizations that monitor the political processes or seek to influence the content of public policy. Also, you may choose to enter an advanced degree program for political science, law, public administration or business management. Benedictine graduates have been accepted into law schools accredited by the American Bar Association and political science graduate programs across the country.

How does the program work?

As a Political Science major, you will complete at least 36 credit hours (12 courses) in political science subjects and nine credit hours in other social science subjects in addition to the basic college requirements for graduation. In the departmental core, you will develop a knowledge of the principles of politics, law, international relations, American national government, the judicial system, state and local government, social science research methods, and how to research and write a thesis paper. You will also acquire basic knowledge of related social sciences by completing at least one course each in sociology, psychology and economics.

Event Description:


  • To give young Arizona artists an opportunity to exhibit their artwork to the public.
  • To help make a college education affordable for young Arizona artists.

Why Apply?

  • Exhibit your artwork in a selective professionally juried show.
  • Win a scholarship to Benedictine University Mesa.
  • Gain prestige by having you work added to the permanent collection of a major university museum.

Three jurors will select a maximum of 100 works for the Masters of Tomorrow Exhibition at Benedictine University Mesa. From those 100 finalists, jurors will then select the prize winners.


All high school and community college students who currently reside in Arizona.


  • High School -- Fine Art & Graphic Design
  • Community College -- Fine Art & Graphic Design


Each student may submit up to three original works of art in any media. Specify art or design.

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: Midnight, Feb. 3, 2018
  • Finalists Announced: Feb. 9, 2018
  • Deliver Artwork: Feb. 16-17, 2018
  • Opening Reception: 3-5pm, Feb. 24, 2018
  • Exhibition: Feb. 24 - March 9, 2018
  • Pick-Up Artwork: 8-5pm, March 9-10


Best Fine Art Work: 50% tuition scholarship to Benedictine University Mesa.

Best Graphic Design Work: 50% tuition scholarship to Benedictine University Mesa.

2nd Prize, High School: $500 cash prize, and artwork will be accepted into the permanent collection of the Benedictine University Art Museum.

2nd Prize, Community College: $500 cash prize, and artwork will be accepted into the permanent collection of the Benedictine University Art Museum.
