Event Description:

 

Dr. Christina Rivers is an associate professor of political science at DePaul University, and the director of the university's Center for Black Diaspora. Her teaching and research interests include African-American politics and political thought, civil and voting rights law, and the implications of mass incarceration on the political rights and representation of African Americans. She has published a book on these topics and currently works with inmates at Stateville Correctional Center in Illinois on education and public policy.

Event Description:

In this year's Benedictine Heritage Lecture, Dr. Christopher Pramuk draws from Thomas Merton and Pope Francis to explore the epistemological roots of the environmental crisis, with special attention to university education and the formation of young people.

Dr. Pramuk is the Chair of Ignatian Thought and Imagination and Associate Professor at Regis University. His areas of expertise include the famed spiritual writer Thomas Merton and contemporary issues at the intersection of spirituality, the arts, theology, and racial justice.

Event Description:

Benedictine's 2018 Teach-In event will offer members of the BenU community the opportunity to engage in dialogue around issues of social justice and inequality. In addition to panel sessions that cover a wide array of topics, the Teach-In will feature keynote addresses by Dr. Catherine S. Ramírez ("Assimilation: An Alternative History") and the Chicago-based poet Kevin Coval ("Hip-Hop & Social Justice in the Civic Sphere"). Other events will include a poster session, an activism fair, and an evening performance by Storycatchers Theatre's Changing Voices Ensemble.
