Event Description:

What an outstanding selection of readings we are looking forward to for the annual staff and faculty Faith and Justice Summer Reading Group on Zoom!

As you see from the flyer, we are starting with a new release by Massimo Faggioli, followed by selections from a biography of Dorothy Day written by her granddaughter. Next, we’ll read selections from a book by Janelle Wong about the ways that evangelical Christianity influences immigrants’ political stance. Our fourth selection addresses white supremacy and American Christianity. And to round out our summer program we’ll read selections from Fr. Cyprian Davis’ history of Black Catholics in the U.S. (If reading 5 books over the summer seems ambitious, please note the words “selections from”.)

Here is the link to the very helpful Faith and Justice Summer Reading Library Research Guide with additional information about the authors and their books:  https://researchguides.ben.edu/FJ2021

For the first 15 people who sign up for the reading group we have a free copy of: Joe Biden and Catholicism in the United States by Massimo Faggioli, professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University. (Book would need to be picked up from the BU Library.)

To sign up for the reading group just email Carrie Ankeny cankeny@ben.edu or Pat Somers psomers@ben.edu

In prior years, these book discussions have been a highlight of the summer for many of us and we are looking forward to reading with you this summer. We encourage you to plan on coming to all the discussions while knowing that summer is a busy time for many.

Best,

The Faith and Justice Planning Group
